What’s The Difference Between Perfume And Cologne?

Perfumes and Colognes are entirely different. There is a misconception that perfumes are for women and colognes for men; I, Emma had the same perception as well until recently when I got to know the difference between the two. While perfumes are a blend of essential oils and solvents, colognes are a mixture of essential oil extracts, water and alcohol. Both are scents produced differently. However if you are looking to buy a scent, research to determine which work in favor of your body chemistry.

Cologne and Perfume: Know the difference

  • Cologne is a type of fragrance and the term originates from Cologne, Germany. Perfumes are largely related to and originate from France.
  • I was astonished to find out that the concentration largely varies with colognes and perfumes. While colognes have a 5-8% concentration of essential oil blends, in perfumes, it is over 30%. So it is obvious that the fragrance of perfumes stay longer! Colognes can give out their aromas for 2 hours whereas perfumes can make their impact for 6-8 hours.
  • I also highly recommend you to spray the perfumes however if you are using a cologne, you can either spray or splash since the concentration is less.
  • If you are interested to know how the two vary with regard to price, it is the perfumes that are on the higher side due to the concentration levels. Colognes are much cheaper.

Cologne or perfume?

I love both colognes and perfumes. I generally prefer wearing a perfume when I am leaving for work however if there’s a small evening party or a dinner plan with my friends, I opt to wear a pleasing cologne. It is entirely the duration that matters to me.
